We can work together in the following areas:
If you are in transition do you know what you really want in your life? What empowers you? What holds you back? I can help you explore your options and create your vision. Do you want to make a major life change? Change your career? Start a family? Move to a new area? I can help you explore the fear and uncertainty that often accompanies change and identify effective coping strategies to help you through.
Sometimes transitions are involuntary. Are you grieving the death of a loved one? Going through a divorce? Facing an unexpected illness? Trying to cope with feelings associated with physical, mental or sexual abuse? Do you have depression or anxiety? We can work together so that you can find ways to honor your feelings and take care of yourself.
If you have had a traumatic experience, the healing process often begins with coming to terms with what happened to you and deciding if and when you want to talk about it with others. We can work together to find ways to cope with the emotional ups and downs that come with recurring emotions and flashbacks and discover ways to help you move on.
Self-sabotage is a common, subtle way you may hold yourself back from realizing your potential. Do you tell yourself all the reasons why you cannot possibly succeed? Does fear of failure keep you from trying? Do you find yourself saying, “Yes, but . . .” on a regular basis? Are you filled with self-doubt? Are you quite certain that your plans will never work out? Do you get to the point of almost succeeding and then quit or do something to prove you are incompetent? I can help you explore these negative ways of thinking and acting, and help you find ways to support yourself to become your own best friend.
Alcohol and other substance abuse or dependence uses up time, energy and money. We can explore what it is you want for your life. How does your substance of choice help you reach your goals? How does it interfere with them? What are your family and friends telling you about your substance use? Is it affecting your relationships? Is your work being affected? Have the legal authorities become involved in your life because of your substance use? Let’s take an honest look at this area of your life.
Anger can interfere with your relationships at home and at work. Do you feel angry a good part of the time? What makes you angry? What has been the result of trying to change people and situations with your power? We can talk about where your anger comes from. What do you want for your life? Is your anger helping or hurting you be the person you want to be? Let’s talk about your options for making your daily life more pleasant for you and for the people around you.
I will work collaboratively with you in any of these areas to help you overcome obstacles and make the most of your strengths. We will meet regularly with the intention of making positive changes in your life for your own well-being. Along the way, you may find you don’t have to struggle so hard. You may find that you have come to a point where you are at peace with life and yourself. Your vision may begin to expand beyond the limits you have imposed on yourself. Imagine the possibilities!
